Liverpool 1, Saints 0

Daniel Agger scored the only goal at Anfield as Liverpool beat Saints and climbed to 11th place in the Barclay’s Premier League.
Liverpool started the brightest when Jonjo Shelvey had his effort cannon off the post
Then Luis Suarez thought he was gifted a goal when Jose Fonte failed to deal with a Pepe Reina clearance before seeing his shot tipped behind by Southampton’s Paulo Gazzaniga.
Then the Uruguayan had a free kick come back off the crossbar that seemed to have beaten the Saints keeper easily.
But Liverpool did take the lead when a Glen Johnson cross was met by Daniel Agger to head the home side ahead.
Despite some long range efforts from Rickie Lambert the Saints were unable to equalise.
The last moments of the game saw Southampton go direct but again were unable to create any clear cut opportunities.
The front quartet of Jason Puncheon, Gaston Ramirez, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert were unable to work as well as they have in recent weeks – a reality check for the improving Southampton who lose their first in five games.
